The good news is hot smoked salmon, which is brine cured and smoked at a higher temperature, is a safer alternative! Hot smoked salmon will have a firm, flaky texture and smoky flavor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>multigrain bread:<\/strong> I\u2019m opting for multigrain bread here for a little more nutty flavor and fiber <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23885994\/#:~:text=Epidemiologic%20studies%20have%20shown%20that,reducing%20appetite%20and%20energy%20intake.\">to help keep you full longer<\/a> but you can use your preferred bread of choice!<\/p>\n<p><strong>edamame:<\/strong> I use shelled refrigerated edamame but you could use frozen shelled edamame too \u2013 just be sure to defrost it before using.<\/p>\n<p><strong>basil:<\/strong> I add this fresh herb to add a balance of sweet and savory flavor to the edamame spread.<\/p>\n<p><strong>lemon<\/strong>: I include lemon juice and zest to add bright flavor to the smashed edamame.<\/p>\n<p><strong>tahini<\/strong>: This sesame paste helps bind the smashed edamame and adds a rich nutty flavor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pickled onions<\/strong>: You can find pickled onions at some grocery stores or specialty food stores but I used a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonappetit.com\/recipe\/quick-pickled-onions?srsltid=AfmBOoqhvQF07tlErwe9B7fKtEawzUH1K4qRh8ScSuyqljGQyo1ynxqx\">quick pickled onion recipe from Bon Appetit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>microgreens<\/strong>: Young vegetable greens falling somewhere in-between a sprout and a baby green. They add texture, flavor and visual appeal to meals and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1756464623002979#:~:text=(2015)%20found%20that%20microgreen%20lettuce,observed%20in%20Xiao%20et%20al.\">contain more concentrated nutrient content.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>hot honey<\/strong>: Adds the perfect combo of sweet and spicy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>chia seeds<\/strong>: Adds a little crunch and <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6627181\/\">extra omega-3 boost!<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Omega-3 Packed Toast Recipe!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to bump up your omega-3 intake, this recipe is IT. <a href=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/Omega3FattyAcids-HealthProfessional\/\">Multiple ingredients are high in omegas like the salmon, edamame, and chia seeds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Omega-3s are essential fatty acids because we don\u2019t produce them in our body naturally \u2013 we need to get them from food sources and\/or supplements.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/Omega3FattyAcids-HealthProfessional\/#other\">Omega-3s (primarily DHA and EPA) are well-studied have been associated with a whole host of health benefits including supporting cognitive function and infant health and brain development*<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a dietitian, I like having all my bases covered when it comes to different nutrients which is why I also take an omega-3 supplement.
