Hi GPODers!<\/p>\n

Today we\u2019re heading to central Michigan for an update on Dale Dailey\u2019s diverse gardens. Dale has shared the many different aspects of his landscape, with his fascinating collection of plants, quite a few times in the past (here is a handful of his previous submissions: Dale\u2019s Japanese Garden<\/a>, Dale\u2019s Garden in 2020<\/a>, Spring Versus Summer in Dale\u2019s Garden<\/a>, A Year in a Garden<\/a>, Stop Dreaming about Spring<\/a>), and today\u2019s update is equally as enlightening. So far this year, there has already been an alluring assortment of blooms, and everything from his Japanese garden to his shade beds is looking exquisite.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Spring arrived early this year with an abundance of flowering trees and bright, colorful foliage. This photo shows a weeping cherry tree<\/em> in bloom with a purple-leaved European beech<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Fagus sylvatica,\u00a0Zones 5\u20137) to the left.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"grassy<\/a>We have a large area around our house dedicated to a variety of gardens. This pathway moves from sunny plantings to a shady area in front of our Japanese-style garden.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"bright<\/a>Along the way, the blossoms of a Cardinal Wyszynski clematis<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Clematis<\/a> \u2018Cardinal Wyszynski\u2019<\/em>, Zones 4\u201310)<\/em> were extraordinary this spring.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"jack-in-the-pulpit<\/a>In a shady area, I stopped to admire a Farge\u2019s cobra lily<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Arisaema<\/a> fargesii, Zones 6\u20138)<\/em> in full bloom.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Japanese<\/a>Finally reaching our Japanese garden, I\u2019m reminded of how it is always a restful place to stop and sit and contemplate.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"red<\/a>Walking on around, I discover that the large mayapple <\/em>(<\/em>Podophyllum<\/a> \u2018Spotty Dotty\u2019<\/em>, Zones 6\u20139)<\/em> is in full bloom.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"butterfly<\/a>Our gardens provide a rich habitat for bees and butterflies. One big area is dedicated to pollinators.<\/em><\/p>\n

There are many, many more treats in our garden. We have a huge space dedicated to formal gardens. I have been creating gardens, collecting unusual plants, and planting them for at least 25 years.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"shade<\/a>One last photo shows a colorful graphic canvas in an otherwise shady area. The canvas is surrounded by hardy kiwi vines<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Actinidia<\/a> arguta, Zones 3\u20138)<\/em> on the left and a very mature wisteria<\/a> on the right.<\/em><\/p>\n
