So when I had kids I wanted to come up with my own apple cider recipe to keep the tradition going. That and a gallon of organic apple cider quickly gets expensive for a large family. <\/p>\n<p>Most recipes online called for huge amounts of apples (even too much for us) and required canning and special equipment. I wanted to find a way to make a batch without canning since we drink it that same day.<\/p>\n<p>I immediately\u00a0thought of making cider in the Crock-Pot. I loved the idea of the smell of baking apples filling the house all day while it cooked.\u00a0They say smells trigger emotions and <a href=\"https:\/\/wellnessmama.com\/podcast\/753\/\">memories in the brain<\/a>, and I believe it Hot apple cider does that for me.<\/p>\n<p>This apple cider recipe version is easy to make too! <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-apple-cider\">What is Apple Cider?<\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019ve seen it in the store or maybe bought it at a local farmstand, but what is apple cider? Apple cider is different from apple juice in several ways. Apple cider is made from pressed, fresh apples and is left unfiltered and sometimes unpasteurized. Apple juice however has the apple solids filtered out so it\u2019s clearer and has less fiber. <\/p>\n<p>This version of apple cider is technically neither of those things. While it\u2019s absolutely delicious, I don\u2019t have the large apple press at home necessary for true apple cider. Instead, we\u2019re making a sort of tea that draws all the flavor from the fruit and spices into the water. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-minute-apple-cider-recipe-from-scratch\">5-Minute Apple Cider Recipe (from Scratch)<\/h2>\n<p>Homemade <a href=\"https:\/\/wellnessmama.com\/recipes\/applesauce-recipe\/\">fresh applesauce<\/a> is a fall staple in our home. I usually have a variety of organic apples on hand this time of year for that project. So I just grabbed some of the Fiji, Gala, and Honeycrisp apples on the counter for this apple cider recipe. <\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t have to add any sweetener since those varieties are naturally sweet. If you use more sour apples, add a little honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar to the final product. It only took about 5 minutes to wash, peel, and cut 10 apples. My kids are pretty good with knives in the kitchen <a data-lasso-id=\"15860\" href=\"https:\/\/wellnessmama.com\/go\/kids-cook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thanks to this class<\/a> so that helps!<\/p>\n<p>After prep it\u2019s really just a matter of waiting and taking in the heavenly smell of baking apples and spices as they cook down. All that\u2019s left is to strain and serve! We like cider best served warm. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-203486-step-0-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<p><span style=\"display: block;\">Cover and cook on low for 6\u20138 hours (overnight works great).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-203486-step-0-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<p><span style=\"display:
