or erect perennials with top-heavy flowers like some <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/flowers\/dahlia-support-stakes\/\">dahlias<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a growth kicks into high gear, set into place and install supports such as lattices, netting, trellises, obelisks, stakes, poles, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>As plants bud and grow, attach them to their supports with plant clips, twine, or garden velcro.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Sow-Cool-Season-Vegetables\">Sow Cool Season Vegetables<\/h3>\n<p>Once the weather improves enough to work the soil in vegetable beds, loosen, till, and amend it with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure.<\/p>\n<p>Create furrows, hills, or trenches as needed then sow the cool season crops choy<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-collard-greens\/\">collards<\/a><\/strong>, kale, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-mustard-greens\/\">mustard<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/how-to-grow-beets\/\">beets<\/a><\/strong>, carrots, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-onions\/\">onions<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/gimme-those-potatoes-a-spud-growing-guide\/\">potatoes<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-turnips\/\">turnips<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-radishes\/\">radishes<\/a><\/strong> also prefer an early planting, as do <em>Brassica<\/em> varieties like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-broccoli\/\">broccoli<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/brussels-sprouts\/\">brussels sprouts<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-cabbage\/\">cabbage<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The seeds can be directly sown into cool soils. Spinach can germinate in soil temperatures as low as 35\u00b0F, but most cool season vegetables need soil in the range of 40 to 50\u00b0F for germination.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Start-Summer-Vegetables-Indoors\">Start Summer Vegetables Indoors<\/h3>\n<p>Unless you have long summers, many annual vegetables that need hot temperatures and a long growing season are best weather returns.<\/p>\n<p>Four to eight weeks before the last frost, sow seeds in flats or trays for vegetables and fruits such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-celery\/\">celery<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/cucumbers\/\">cucumbers<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/eggplant\/\">eggplant<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/herbs\/fennel\/\">fennel<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/grow-leeks\/\">leeks<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/fruit\/grow-muskmelons\/\">melons<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/growing-using-bell-peppers\/\">peppers<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/planting-time-tomatoes\/\">tomatoes<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/plants\/vegetables\/nearly-complete-guide-growing-squash\/\">winter squash<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Place trays in a warm location with temperatures of 65 to 75\u00b0F, using a bottom heating mat and\/or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerspath.com\/gear\/best-grow-lights\/\">grow lights<\/a><\/strong> if needed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Remove-Protective-Covers\">Remove Protective Covers<\/h3>\n<p>After all danger of frost has passed, remove protective winter covers to improve air circulation, keep mold in check, and prevent hardening off the likes of carrots, leeks, and salad greens.<\/p>\n<p>Remove covers on a cloudy day to avoid shock from sudden exposure to strong sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t wait too long to remove the covers \u2013 warm spring temperatures can easily become hot in an enclosed environment, causing serious damage to plants.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Late-Season\">Late Season<\/h2>\n<p>By late spring, the garden\u2019s bursting with lush new growth and early flowers. way.<\/p>\n<p>In mid-spring, lift protective covers and set up trellises.
