Today we\u2019re heading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobotanic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago Botanic Garden<\/a> with\u00a0Cindy Strickland, who has shared bright blooms from her garden in the windy city (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/cindys-top-summer-blooms-northwest-chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cindy\u2019s Top Summer Blooms Northwest Chicago<\/a>) as well as from some of the fascinating gardens she has travelled to over the years (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/gpod-on-the-road-sissinghurst-castle-garden-in-late-may\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Late May<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/gpod-on-the-road-sydney-australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sydney, Australia<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/gpod-on-the-road-smallhythe-place\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smallhythe Place<\/a>). With this world-renowned garden institution in her backyard, she was able to plan a visit that coincided with the first flowers of the year.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hello, Cindy in Chicago here. Just wanted to share a few early bloomers I found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagobotanic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago Botanic Garden<\/a> on March 8, 2026. I was mainly looking for the white and pendulous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/genus\/galanthus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">galanthus<\/a>\u2014also known as snowdrops. I enjoyed noting the details of the different markings on the flowers. A nodding flower that looks similar to<\/em> <em>galanthus<\/em> <em>is summer snowflake<\/em> <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/genus\/leucojum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leucojum<\/a> aestivum, <em>Zones 4\u20138), which blooms later than galanthus but is also in the Amaryllis family.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/images.finegardening.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/03\/19172725\/GPOD-Strickland-1-Galanthus-nivalis-Flore-Pleno.jpg\"><\/a><em>\u2018Flore Pleno\u2019<\/em> <em>(<\/em>G. nivalis<em> \u2018Flore Pleno\u2019<\/em>, <em>Zones 3\u20137) is a \u201cdouble\u201d snowdrop\u2014the inner perianth segments are usually marked with green.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/images.finegardening.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/03\/19172727\/GPOD-Strickland-2-Galanthus-elwesii.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full trees that will provide some shade after blooming.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/images.finegardening.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/03\/19172729\/GPOD-Strickland-3-Galanthus-nivalis-Sam-Arnott.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full
