To celebrate the season slowly coning to life, I wanted to encourage more spring submissions by looking back at last year\u2019s gardens. You might recall when I shared photos last year from some great spring gardens in the GPOD archive (Check it out, if you missed it: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/happy-spring-gpod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Happy Spring GPOD!<\/a>), but this year I\u2019m focusing on the sensational scenes we saw in 2025.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/cindys-spring-in-dallas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cindy\u2019s Spring in Dallas<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This first photo comes from Cindy Bolz in Dallas, Texas, and was one of the earliest spring submissions we received last year. Cindy cultivates many gorgeous blooms, but her colorful foliage plants are always a highlight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/images.finegardening.com\/app\/uploads\/2025\/04\/16165144\/GPOD-Bolz-purple-oxalis-with-white-veined-pipeline.jpg\"><\/a><em>This shows purple oxalis<\/em>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/genus\/oxalis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Oxalis<\/i><\/a>\u00a0<i>triangularis<\/i>, Zones 6\u201310)<em> with white-veined pipeline <\/em>(<i>Aristolochia<\/i>\u00a0<i>fimbriata<\/i>, Zones 7\u20139).<em>\u00a0Each summer I get at least two full cycles of the beautiful black pipevine butterfly<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Battus philenor<\/em>)<em>\u00a0laying her eggs in these leaves. This is shortly followed by a tribe of little black caterpillars munching their way through every single leaf right down to the roots. Then the leaves grow back and the full cycle repeats.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/article\/early-spring-in-beths-north-carolina-garden-part-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Early Spring in Beth\u2019s North Carolina Garden, Part 2<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Beth Tucker frequently shares her vibrant garden in in Waxhaw, North Carolina, and spring starts the growing season off to a colorful start. Sixteen years ago, I bought seven plants of this candelabra primrose<\/em> <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finegardening.com\/genus\/primula\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Primula<\/a><em>\u00a0\u00d7\u00a0<\/em>bulleesiana<em>, Zones 4\u20137)<\/em>.\u00a0<em>The seed heads are left on most of the summer.
