Alternatively you can purchase nursery starts \u2013 if you can find them! \u2013 for transplant into the garden.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Seed<\/h3>\n<p>You can sow directly outdoors after your last spring frost, or start seeds indoors four to six weeks earlier for a head start.<\/p>\n<p>Soak the seeds overnight before sowing, and press them only lightly into the surface of the soil as they need light to germinate.<\/p>\n<p>To direct sow:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prepare a planting area about 18 inches wide by removing weeds or other vegetation, mixing in a handful or two of compost, and moistening the soil.<\/li>\n<li>Press a group of three seeds into the surface of the soil, patting lightly to ensure good contact.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Expect the seeds to germinate within three weeks.
