Hi GPODers!<\/p>\n

Each gardener views their landscape a little differently. Some grow plants for their environmental impact, others want to grow plants for their use in the kitchen and home, some are gravitated to plants for their aesthetic beauty, and others get so obsessed with one particular plant that they amass an unbelievable collection. Most of us are drawn to all of these aspects of gardening, and Linda Hagler in Madison, Georgia (Zone 8a) surely falls in that camp, but her incredible rose collection of 104 plants is what really stood out in this submission.<\/p>\n

I only started gardening when I was 40 years old. I am now 81 and I can\u2019t wait to get outside everyday. We built this home 8 years ago and my front yard is full sun with tons of deer around. We live in downtown Madison, GA but we still have deer. We have evergreens in the front yard along with things the deer do not eat. In the backyard, we put up a deer fence. I have 104 roses. A lot of the roses, I rooted myself. I was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines for 26 years and then became a realtor when Eastern went out of business. I have moved 5 times and made gardens each time. We have 1 acre but at least 1\/3 acre is in huge old oak trees. 1\/2 acre is the front yard and I have squeezed in a vegetable garden, 104 roses, and a perennial garden in the back yard with 1\/3 acre of sun.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a>A bright pink Dortmund\u00ae rose (Rosa<\/em><\/a> \u2018Dortmund\u2019, Zones 4\u201310) climbs a tree trunk for a flash of color in the shade.<\/p>\n

\"light<\/a>More pretty pink roses, ranging from bright to light, provide layers of interest at different heights in the garden.<\/p>\n

\"light<\/a>Linda\u2019s rose collection is endlessly impressive, but she does save some room for other bloomers. A \u2018Sea Breeze\u2019 clematis (Clematis<\/em><\/a> \u2018Zo09063\u2019, Zones 4\u20139) adds a lovely pop of light purple.<\/p>\n

\"deep<\/a>It isn\u2019t a real rose collection without some stunning red shades in the mix. An Arborose\u00ae Florentina\u2122 rose (Rosa<\/em> \u2018KORtrameilo\u2019, Zones 5\u201310) is vibrant in dappled shade.<\/p>\n

\"pink<\/a>Another non-rose adding vibrancy to Linda\u2019s landscape is her El Nino\u00ae desert orchid (Chitalpa<\/em> \u2018NCXC1\u2019, Zones 6\u20139).<\/p>\n

\"bright<\/a>When it comes to climbing, roses and clematis are a lovely pairing. Here, a\u00a0Eden Climber\u00ae Pretty in Pink rose (R.<\/em> \u2018Margaret Mae\u2019, Zones 5\u201310) is a charming companion to the smaller, bell-shaped blooms of \u2018Betty Corning\u2019 clematis (Clematis<\/em> \u2018Betty Corning\u2019, Zones 4\u20139).<\/p>\n

\"bright<\/a>For a collector like Linda, containers can be utilized to squeeze in more varieties that don\u2019t mind a confined space. \u2018Frilly Lilly\u2019 rose (R.<\/em> \u2018Frilly Lilly\u2019, Zones 5\u201310) is a compact variety that is very happy in a container\u2014as you can see from this profusion of blooms.<\/p>\n

\"pink<\/a>Lastly, a look at some of Linda\u2019s roses enjoying sun and shade. In the foreground, bright pink Eleganza\u00ae Fiji\u2122 roses (R.<\/em> \u2018KORladcher\u2019, Zones 5\u201310) pair nicely with the pure white blooms of Honor\u2122 (R.<\/em> \u2018JAColite\u2019, Zones 6\u201310).<\/p>\n
