Happy Monday GPODers!<\/p>\n

Summer is on our tails and the weather is really heating up, so color is erupting from every corner and crevice of our landscapes. One gardener who is a champion of color, and texture, in her designs is Jennifer Koch Pfeiffer in Scarsdale, New York (Zone 7a). As a professional garden designer, she crafts luscious beds that exude creativity and style with combinations that are cohesive but diverse enough to still be exciting. Check out some colorful and texturally wonderful combinations in this garden\u2019s long beds and tall containers.<\/p>\n

The garden is in Scarsdale, NY and is full of salvias, allium, ornamental grasses, verbena<\/a>, heuchera<\/a>, lamb\u2019s ear (<\/em>Stachys<\/a> byzantina, Zones 4\u20138), chrysanthemum<\/a>, scabiosa<\/a>, and nepeta<\/a>. This is one of my favorite recipes for a large and deep garden. I enjoy how the textures and colors complement one another. I\u2019ve been professionally gardening for 13 years and love designing with loads of perennials with added color and\/or texture with help from annuals. I\u2019ve learned to plant for the conditions that you have and you\u2019ll have less plant failures. I love adding alliums<\/a> of different heights and sizes and my favorite new plant is a dahlia<\/a> and mixing them in to showcase their bright colors.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/a>Sun\/part sun garden full of \u2018Sheffield Pink\u2019 chrysanthemum<\/em> (<\/em>Chrysanthemum<\/a> \u2018Sheffield Pink\u2019<\/em>, Zones 5\u20139), lamb\u2019s ear, iris<\/a>, \u2018May Night\u2019 salvia (<\/em>Salvia<\/a> x <\/em>sylvestris \u2018May Night\u2019<\/em>, Zones 4\u20139), autumn moor grass<\/em> (<\/em>Sesleria<\/a> autumnalis, Zones 5\u20138), verbena hybrid, and dahlia. I love the different textures and cool tones. The little bit of brightness adds to the depth.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"deep<\/a>A deep perennial planting bed with \u2018May Night\u2019 and \u2018Caradonna\u2019 salvia<\/em> (<\/em>Salvia nemorosa \u2018Caradonna\u2019<\/em>, Zones 4\u20138)<\/em>, autumn moor grass, allium, and digitalis<\/a> giving a cool tone feel to the garden.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"walkway<\/a>A smaller walkway garden balancing plants on both sides for a sun\/part sun. A basic pallet of salvias, and nepeta.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"simple<\/a>Small, simple, tall planter recipe: \u2018Whirling Butterflies\u2019 gaura<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Gaura<\/a> lindheimeri \u2018Whirling Butterflies\u2019<\/em>, Zones 5\u20139), clematis<\/a>, and \u2018Blue Cloud\u2019 calamint<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Calamintha<\/a> nepeta \u2018Blue Cloud\u2019<\/em>, Zones 5\u20139)<\/em> thriving in full sun.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"tall<\/a>Full shade tall planter recipe includes a male fern<\/em> (<\/em>Dryopteris<\/a> filix-mas, Zones 4\u20138), a mix of begonias<\/a>, \u2018Pink Fizz\u2019 heucherella<\/em>\u00a0(<\/em>Heucherella \u2018Pink Fizz\u2019<\/em>, Zones 4\u20139)<\/em> and bacopa. I enjoy the softness of the greens and subtle colors to balance it out.<\/em><\/p>\n
