Happy Tuesday, GPOD! Today we\u2019re visiting Sarah in St. Louis, Missouri (Zone 7a), where colorful perennial plantings, creative containers, and plenty of pollinator-friendly flowers bring her small garden to life.<\/p>\n

After a new patio was built in 2023, I was eager to design and plant the new blank space. Now in 2026 it is really starting to fill in beautifully. My small garden is packed with perennials, and the patio comes to life in the spring with containers full of lush and colorful annuals.<\/em><\/p>\n

I enjoy growing flowers for cutting, especially giant zinnias. I enjoy flower arranging, especially in a secondhand vase or pitcher. I belong to my local garden club and a community garden a few blocks away. I\u2019m thankful for the community garden because it gives me the opportunity to grow things I don\u2019t have room for in my small garden.<\/em><\/p>\n

In 2026, I began sharing my gardening journey on YouTube at Sarah\u2019s Moments in the Garden. On my channel you will find garden tours, patio and container gardening, budget gardening, vintage and secondhand finds, and lots of garden center shopping.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Dense<\/p>\n

The perennial garden in June of 2026. Along the foundation is a row of Little Quick Fire panicle hydrangeas<\/a> (<\/em>Hydrangea paniculata \u2018SMHPLQF\u2019, Zones 3\u20138). Purple coneflower (<\/em>Echinacea purpurea, Zones 3\u20138), \u2018Cat\u2019s Pajamas\u2019 catmint (<\/em>Nepeta \u2018Cat\u2019s Pajamas\u2019, Zones 3\u20138), speedwell (<\/em>Veronica cvs., Zones 3\u20139), \u2018Everest\u2019 Japanese sedge<\/a> (<\/em>Carex oshimensis \u2018Everest\u2019, Zones 5\u20139), dusty miller<\/a> (<\/em>Jacobaea maritima, Zones 8\u201311), Baby Elizabeth rose (<\/em>Rosa \u2018Baby Elizabeth\u2019, Zones 5\u20139), \u2018Pink Parasol\u2019 coneflower (<\/em>Echinacea \u2018Pink Parasol\u2019, Zones 4\u20139), \u2018Autumn Joy\u2019 stonecrop (<\/em>Hylotelephium \u2018Herbstfreude\u2019, Zones 3\u20139), and Firefly Fuchsia yarrow (<\/em>Achillea<\/a> \u2018Firefly Fuchsia\u2019, Zones 3\u20138) fill in the space nicely.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Terra-cotta<\/p>\n

My birdbath<\/a>, made from terra-cotta pots turned upside down with a saucer on top, is surrounded by Daisy May Shasta daisies (<\/em>Leucanthemum \u00d7 superbum \u2018Daisy May\u2019, Zones 5\u20139) and annual purple salvia,\u00a0Creeping phlox<\/a> (<\/em>Phlox subulata, Zones 3\u20139) covers the ground.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Large<\/p>\n

The containers<\/a> on my front porch hold asparagus fern (<\/em>Asparagus densiflorus and cvs., Zones 9\u201311), pink begonias (<\/em>Begonia cvs., annual), creeping Jenny (<\/em>Lysimachia nummularia, Zones 3\u20138), and Heart to Heart \u2018Chinook\u2019 caladium<\/a> (<\/em>Caladium \u2018Chinook\u2019, Zones 9\u201311). This space receives sun for a few hours in the morning.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Three<\/p>\n

The basket planters show off my color scheme for 2026 of pink, purple, and white. On the left are purple petunias,\u00a0tall verbena <\/a><\/em>(Verbena bonariensis, Zones 7\u201311), and white sweet alyssum <\/em>(Lobularia maritima, annual). In the center are SunPatiens Compact Orchid Blush impatiens <\/em>(Impatiens \u2018SAKIMP045\u2019, annual), purple alyssum, and Jacob\u2019s ladder <\/em>(Polemonium<\/a> cvs., Zones 3\u20138). On the right is a pink-and-white dianthus<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

This grouping of terra-cotta pots<\/a> on a vintage iron plant stand holds geraniums, purple petunias, white sweet alyssum, purple bacopa <\/em>(Chaenostoma cordatum., annual), pink begonias, and trailing Mezoo (<\/em>Dorotheanthus bellidiformis, Zones 9\u201311).<\/em><\/p>\n
