I wish I could visit every botanical garden that exists\u2014could you imagine? And while I haven\u2019t made it to any botanical gardens in Georgia yet, Patricia has been kind enough to send us a few highlights from her visits. Last year, Patricia took us along on a visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden.<\/a> This time, Patricia headed north to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville<\/a>. She sent us a few photos of what caught her eye during her visit. Let\u2019s take a look!<\/p>\n

\n

Winterberry<\/a> (<\/em>Ilex verticillata cvs., Zones 3\u20139) with golden-orange fall berries.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"viburnum,<\/p>\n

The garden is full of linden viburnum<\/a> (<\/em>Viburnum dilatatum, Zones 4\u20138) and winterberry, all full of berries. The birds are going to have a feast!<\/em><\/p>\n

\"shrub<\/p>\n

Not sure what sort of legume this is, but you can see how tiny it is next to the acorn.<\/em><\/p>\n

This looks like shrub bush clover<\/a> (Lespedeza bicolor<\/em>, Zones 4\u20138). While its small, pea-like flowers make it an attractive late-season bloomer, it is considered invasive in Georgia and other parts of the Southeast.<\/p>\n

\"Cape<\/p>\n

Some lovely Cape leadwort<\/a> (<\/em>Plumbago auriculata, Zones 8\u201311).<\/em><\/p>\n

\"pitcher<\/p>\n

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is known for rescuing and propagating bog plants. Here are some pitcher plants<\/a> (<\/em>Sarracenia cvs., Zones 6\u20139) growing in a carnivorous bog bowl.<\/em><\/p>\n

And just in case you can\u2019t read the Carnivorous Bog Bowl info card: \u201cMany carnivorous plants are native to bogs in the southeastern United States. The wet soil in bogs lacks many of the nutrients plants need to thrive. Because of this, these amazing plants have adapted ways that allow them to obtain vital nutrients from digesting insects and small animals.\u201d<\/p>\n

And they have a dragon!<\/em><\/p>\n

Thanks for taking us on a fall stroll through the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Gainesville, Patricia! I have family in Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia, so I\u2019ll definitely have to make a trip next time I\u2019m in the area.<\/p>\n
