Hi GPOD! Today we\u2019re visiting John\u2019s Zone 7a garden in Readington, New Jersey. His front garden is full of late-season color<\/a>, so much so that I imagine anyone walking by would immediately think, \u201cFall is here!\u201d It\u2019s one of those gardens that grounds you in the season and makes you appreciate what\u2019s happening right now. With flowers and ornamental grasses<\/a> layered throughout the long border, there\u2019s plenty to take in. Here\u2019s John to tell us more!<\/p>\n

Although the beds in front of my house in Readington, New Jersey, have different perennials blooming throughout spring and summer, the current flowers in bloom include garden mums (<\/em>Chrysanthemum \u00d7 morifolium,\u00a0Zones 5\u20139), asters (<\/em>Symphyotrichum cvs., Zones 3\u20138), English lavender (<\/em>Lavandula angustifolia, Zones 5\u20139), bee balm (<\/em>Monarda cvs., Zones 3\u20139), salvia (<\/em>Salvia cvs., Zones 4\u20139), and speedwell (<\/em>Veronica cvs., Zones 3\u20139), along with ornamental grasses and shrubs.<\/em><\/p>\n

I especially enjoy creating a layered look<\/a> by combining different heights and textures and repeating colors along the border. These photos, taken in late September and early October, include wider views showing the garden\u2019s layout as well as closer looks at individual plant combinations<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
