Hi GPOD! We\u2019re heading back to Broomall, Pennsylvania, today to see what\u2019s blooming in Dot\u2019s Zone 7b garden. Longtime GPOD readers might remember Dot from her earlier garden updates<\/a>, and it\u2019s always fun to see how her garden continues to evolve. I really love all of the beautiful plant combinations she has put together. Here\u2019s Dot with a brief introduction:<\/p>\n

Although summer is slipping away, I am still planting perennials and bulbs. I\u2019ve included some garden highlights that I hope you enjoy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u2018Abraham Darby\u2019 rose<\/a> (Rosa<\/em> \u2018Abraham Darby\u2019, Zones 5\u20139) climbs the arbor, while veronica<\/a> (Veronica<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20139) fills in around its base. The purple-blue flower spikes contrast beautifully with the rose\u2019s blush-pink blooms.<\/p>\n

\"orange<\/p>\n

Daylily<\/a> (Hemerocallis<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u201310) and Shasta daisies<\/a> (Leucanthemum<\/em> \u00d7 superbum<\/em> cvs., Zones 5\u20139) mingle together behind this seating area in Dot\u2019s garden.<\/p>\n

\"Fragrant<\/p>\n

Cathedral Bells rose (Rosa<\/em> \u2018DELamo\u2019, Zones 5\u20139) climbs alongside \u2018Jackmanii\u2019 clematis<\/a> (Clematis<\/em> \u2018Jackmanii\u2019, Zones 4\u20138). This pairing really helps both the rose blooms and the deep purple clematis flowers stand out when planted together.<\/p>\n

\"orange<\/p>\n

Helenium<\/a> (Helenium<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20138) is a new addition to Dot\u2019s garden this year. Its warm orange flowers bring another burst of late-season color to the garden, and the rabbit looks perfectly happy tucked among the blooms.<\/p>\n

\"mixed<\/p>\n

Lythrum (Lythrum<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20139), white garden phlox<\/a> (Phlox paniculata<\/em> cvs., Zones 4\u20138), bush clematis<\/a> (Clematis<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20139), agastache<\/a> (Agastache<\/em> cvs., Zones 4\u20139), and Russian sage<\/a> (Salvia yangii<\/em>, Zones 4\u20139) are planted together in this area of the garden. The white phlox breaks through the layers of purple and blue flowers and keeps the eye moving through the space.<\/p>\n

\"orange<\/p>\n

Bright orange nasturtiums<\/a> (Tropaeolum majus<\/em>, annual) weave through purple coneflowers<\/a> (Echinacea purpurea<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20139). I really like how the saturated orange mixes with the deeper pink coneflowers. Nasturtiums also make a great seasonal ground cover for filling in bare spots between plants and spilling over the edges of raised beds.<\/p>\n

\"white<\/p>\n

Shasta daisies, purple coneflowers, and yarrow<\/a> (Achillea millefolium<\/em> cvs., Zones 3\u20139) fill this raised bed. I really like the use of white and pink here.<\/p>\n

Thanks for sharing another update with us, Dot! I really enjoyed seeing all of the plant combinations you\u2019ve put together in your raised beds. There are so many great color pairings here, but I think the orange nasturtiums mixed with the deeper pink coneflowers might be my favorite!<\/p>\n
