Hi GPODers! Today we’re visiting Rhonda in West Grove, Pennsylvania (Zone 7a), where the garden is beginning to wind down for the season. But there’s still plenty to enjoy!
Here are some photos of my waning garden. Begonias, hardy begonias (Begonia grandis, Zones 6–9) my favorite, colchicums (Colchicum cvs., Zones 4–8), tradescantias (Tradescantia cvs., Zones 4–9), toad lilies (Tricyrtis cvs., Zones 4–9), anemones (Anemone hybrids, Zones 4–8), and hostas are on their last legs!
I’ve been trying to make my gardens more manageable by allowing some plants to take over. The beds with the anemones and hardy begonias don’t have any weeds because there isn’t any room!
Pink Japanese anemones in bloom.

A winding stone path leads through more Japanese anemones, ferns, and other shade-loving plants.

These bright magenta double begonias (Begonia cvs., annual) are still putting on quite a show! The weathered urn is a beautiful container for them, and even the scattered petals add a little color to the brick patio.

Colchicums are a welcome surprise in the fall garden. Their flowers appear long after their spring foliage has disappeared.

And here’s a closer look at Rhonda’s favorite hardy begonias! Their delicate pink flowers mingle with hostas (Hosta cvs., Zones 3–9) and other shade-loving plants.
Thank you for sharing your garden with us, Rhonda! When I think of fall gardens, pink isn’t usually the first color that comes to mind. This was such a refreshing change from the oranges, yellows, and reds we typically associate with the season!
