Hi GPODers!
Spring is in full swing and it’s starting to feel like summer is right around the corner, so container gardening is really starting to pick up steam. When we talk containers one person that always comes to mind is Howard Nemeroff A.K.A @plant_parenting. Howard is the owner of an indoor plant and container garden design company in Chicago, Illinois, and generously shares his gorgeous designs, creative process, and maintenance tips on his popular Instagram page. We have been lucky to feature some of his fabulous designs on Garden Photo of the Day over the years (Check out some of his previous submissions: New Container Creations from Howard, Howard’s Spring Container Displays, Celebrating Summer and Welcoming Fall with Howard’s Containers, Howard’s Pumpkin Displays in Chicago, New Creations From a Window Box Expert, and more), and today he is back to share some of the creative concoctions he has cooked up this spring.
I thought I would try my hand at an all native container. Composition includes ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius, Zones 2–8), coreopsis, and maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum, Zones 3–8)
Thriller, filler, and spiller of a different sort
Martha or Regal geraniums (Pelargonium × domesticum, Zones 9–11 or as an annual) and alyssum (Lobularia maritima, annual) easily a month in.
Sorry, it almost looks AI. All legit.
From temperate to tropical, welcome to the colorful world of Neoregelia bromeliads. Here with First Kiss begonias (Begonia ‘I’Conia First Kiss Hot Pink’, annual).
Thank you so much for sharing another selection of beautiful spring containers with us, Howard! Your creations are always a treat to see on the blog and on your Instagram, and your designs provide so much creative inspiration.
How are your containers looking this season? Are your spring containers hitting their stride, or have you just potted up plants for summer? You do not need to be a pro like Howard to submit your container creations, so please consider sharing photos with the blog. Follow the directions below to submit your photos to Garden Photo of the Day!
We want to see YOUR garden!
Have photos to share? We’d love to see your garden, a particular collection of plants you love, or a wonderful garden you had the chance to visit!

You can also send 5–10 photos to [email protected] along with some information about the plants in the pictures and where you took the photos.
